Course Overview
Spinal pain is a biopsychosocial problem. Understanding the relevance of the different contributing factors can support more appropriate clinical management.
Manual Concepts’ Comprehensive Management of the Spine course is designed to advance clinicians’ clinical reasoning and competency in the assessment and management of cervical, thoracic, lumbar spine and pelvic disorders.
The programme explores persistent pain and disability and supports clinicians in selecting appropriate therapy for individual presentations involving headache, whiplash, neck and back pain and spinal-mediated neural tissue disorders.
What You Will Learn
Apply articular testing including active and combined movements and pain-provocation procedures.
Identify possible nociceptive sources of symptoms.
Determine when manual therapy may be appropriate within a multimodal management approach.
Integrate manual therapy with education, exercise and patient-centred care.
Articular System
Muscle & Motor Control System
Assess spinal motor-control impairments using clinical history and physical-examination findings.
Consider contributing factors including fear, guarded movement, weakness, excessive load and deconditioning.
Apply strategies including exposure, pacing, targeted movement and exercise therapy.
Neural System
Evaluate neural pain presentations and determine when neural mobilisation may or may not be appropriate.
Use clinical classification to improve assessment of possible neuropathic pain.
Differentiate neuropathic, somatic referred and centrally mediated pain presentations.
Refine practical examination and handling skills for neural health.
Learning Outcomes
Participants will develop greater clinical reasoning, confidence and competency in assessing and managing complex spinal pain presentations.
The programme aims to improve the ability to identify relevant articular, motor-control and neural contributors and integrate appropriate management within a multimodal, patient-centred approach.
Who Should Attend?
Clinicians seeking to advance their clinical reasoning and competency in the assessment and management of cervical, thoracic, lumbar spine and pelvic disorders.
